The site is a beautiful piece of seafront in Rhosneigr on Anglesey. It benefits from exceptional views out over the water.
Reid was appointed to prepare designs for the construction of nine apartments and three townhouses for the site that made maximum use of the available views.
The site is very linear in plan and runs directly from the beach in the west to the boundary at the public highway to the east.
The possibility to develop the site is constrained by the location of the previous houses on the site.
Reid worked with the levels of the site and the heights of new build proposals to ensure views for both apartments and townhouses on the site.
The form of the new buildings is a visually exciting mix of traditional and contemporary forms using high quality materials. The seafront elevations are predominantly glazed to maximise the impact of the panorama.
Heavy walls of natural local stone cut through the development to form anchors for the house design. They reach out to the landscape as they continue down the site to embed the buildings into the shifting beach landscape. The idea of integration into the landscape is continued with roof terraces which give activity and life to the development and create a seamless connection between inside and out.
