As part of the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme, Reid Architects were part of a Consortium led by Aura on the Rochdale bid.
The brief required flexible, adaptive and inspirational spaces that would allow work based learning environments to promote inclusivity whilst facilitating a strategy of growth and expansion over time. Learning clusters were designed to be easily accessible from all parts of the building and this notion of access was carried through with connectivity to the outside world through the provision of state of the art learning technology as well as spaces for meetings, conferences and training. The design proposals encouraged an approach to learning that would stimulate interaction, support and a sense of community. Through the creation of an extended boulevard approach and iconic frontage, the high quality appearance of the school has an impact on those entering its heart and as such promotes collaboration and a sense of belonging not only for those attending the school, but for the wider community.
