Reid Architects has created the new corporate headquarters for the Blemain Group.
The group has decanted from the centre of Manchester to Cheadle. As part of the move their new home has undergone a radical re-modelling to transform a 1990’s speculative office building into the bespoke headquarters Blemain gave as a brief.
At a functional level all office areas are re-fitted to current grade A office standards with new furniture and fittings. The fabric of the building around the entrance is further modified to create a new double height entrance volume in render, stone, glass and timber. A new glazed entrance gateway concept gives transparency to the building envelope and a sense of arrival at the site. The new volume is naturally ventilated to reduce carbon emissions.
Opening the lift cores onto the lobby also gives visual interest and vitality internally. The lobby provides informal meeting spaces and waiting areas. The space is also a pivot point for the location of new meeting and conference spaces overlooking reception at first floor.
The former open court in the centre of the building is enclosed with a lightweight, steel lattice supported, ETFE roof covering. This re-designed the external space now used as part of the buildings social hub.
As part of the arrival journey the entrance doors are re-orientated to work with vehicle access configuration, car park location and existing pedestrian circulation routes.
All common parts and WC installations are upgraded and the building now has an integrated cafe and coffee shop.
