Reid Architects was commissioned by Altin Homes to provide a development of high quality single family homes. The client's commitment to good design will create a new and positive lasting contribution to the area whilst still complementing the existing residential context of 1930-50s detached and semi-detached dwellings.
The houses are well proportioned, using a pitched roof with single storey extension to the side which ensures that the design references traditional house forms.
In acknowledgement of existing surrounding properties the development uses a limited palette of robust materials of red brick, stone features, zinc cladding and aluminium window framing.
Depth is brought to the elevations by the use of deep reveals with the windows being set within the brickwork to enhance the contrast of light and shade.
Stone frames the projection of the facades and form a contemporary interpretation of the bay window as seen on almost all of the surrounding properties.
This contemporary approach is again utilised through the introduction of the zinc clad dormer that
stays somewhat hidden from the street but is expressed on the rear elevation as a zinc frame containing the juliet balcony.
