The Orchard is set within the South Hale conservation area and is adjacent to the green belt. The proposals are for the existing house on the site to be demolished and a new contemporary house to be constructed in its place.
The existing site is small in comparison to the surrounding gardens and plots.
The new house is positioned on the site to create both public and private courtyards. Large glazed openings opens the house up and makes the most of the views from the site and creates interaction between the inside and outside spaces.
A swimming pool is located in the basement and uses alternative means of energy to supplement more conventional services.
The new house is modelled on traditional forms with new materials to create a blend of traditional and contemporary design which sits comfortably in its conservation area context.
