Property Alliance Group asked Reid Architects to prepare designs for the extensive refurbishment of the building to facilitate re use of the upper floors as offices.
The accommodation has been extended by cantilevering extensions from each of the existing floors and adding two new storeys to the building at roof level.
The building is designed so that the extension does not breach the height set by the adjacent Royal Sun Alliance building.
The geometry of the extended stair core pod facing King Street takes cues from that set up by the adjacent Royal Sun Alliance building service core. The work to the external envelope combines lightweight rain screen technology and curtain walling with the retention of elements of the existing Portland stone façade.
